18 THE WEEKEND NEOS KOSMOS | SATURDAY 29 AUGUST 2015 DIGITAL.NEOSKOSMOS.COM Urban Owl #sunglassesforGreece: High-end vision to the rescue of young entrepreneurs NELLY SKOUFATOGLOU Hand-crafted exclusively in Greece, Dimitris Diamantis' eyewear label Urban Owl is quickly becoming popular amongst fashion enthusiasts and quality aficionados around the world. Urban represents the modern way of living. The owl in ancient Greece accompanies the ancient goddess Athena and has been used as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, perspicacity and erudition. The combination of the two, Urban Owl, suggests values and symbols that transcend time and today are even more important in the era of digital information. After extensive research and over 400 consumer tests under the Mediterranean sun, Urban Owl has announced that it is to fit its handcrafted sunglasses with innovative high definition blue light control sun lenses. The sunglasses contain rare earth elements that have the ability to selectively filter sunlight, enhancing of main colours such as red, green, yellow and blue; which create a strong contrast that results in superior focus. The blue light control filter neutralises blue light, preventing eye strain and fatigue, whilst protecting the wearer from all blue light sources such as the sun, monitors, tablets and smartphones. "The incorporation of these innovative HD lenses demonstrates Urban Owl's commitment to using the best quality raw materials," says Dimitris Diamantis. "I want to prove that young Greeks can still hope and go after their dreams, with ambitious projects, innovative ideas and hard work. "Held down by the economic crisis, our generation is seeking for alternative ways to evolve," he explains. The company is a new Greek startup aiming to prove itself in spite of the adverse economic climate, by demonstrating that ambition and productivity are still very much alive in Greece. "Urban Owl aims to present the other side of the story," says its founder, who aims to help young entrepreneurs who are striving to make a difference. Inspired by Thom Feeney's crowdfunding campaign to bail out Greece, he also launched Urban Owl on the crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo, in July this year. The campaign has received constant funding and excellent feedback from the start and will remain live till 12 September 2015. A big part of this project is also focused in solidarity for people in need. At the end of the campaign, all the money collected for charity will be given directly to the non-profit organisation. "That is why I have reached out to a credible non-profit organisation in Greece, in order to ensure transparency of all transactions," Diamantis stresses. "For every pair of Urban Owl sunglasses sold in this campaign we will give €5 to charity and we are providing the Golden and Platinum packs that contribute €1,000 and €3,000 respectively. "In case we reach 1 million, for every other million we will choose an additional non-profit organisation to support in Greece." Urban Owl's European handcrafted high definition sunglasses retail at only €85; they are impact-resistant and 100 per cent UV protective. Due to the instability of the Greek banking system and in order to ensure the uninterrupted financial management of this project, all the transactions will be carried out through a UK bank and paypal. "By supporting us you get the best pair of sunglasses you will ever wear," says Diamantis. "At the same time, you become a part of our effort to uphold the productive side of Greece in the most direct way. "I have heard people accusing Greeks that are lazy, Aniston: face of Emirates First a wedding, now a large-scale campaign; it’s Jennifer’s time Emirates Airlines have just announced Jennifer Aniston as the new face to represent the airline. Aniston's reported $5 million deal comes just months after rival airline Etihad signed Australian actress Nicole Kidman. Bringing the actress on board is a great PR move according to Vishal Anand, CEO of Dubai-based communications agency Blue Apple. He says both Kidman and Aniston are fitting choices for the airlines as they are A-list stars with recognisable faces, but don't carry a bad record of scandal and negative press. The press seem to agree with Anand's sentiment, with UAE newspapers referring to the former Friends actress as the perfect representative because of her "lifestyle". "Aniston sells a whole package that's somehow both glamorous and totally attainable - which is exactly what Emirates sells, too." The 46-year-old has also signed deals with Aveeno skincare, Smartwater, and Living Proof haircare. Source: Greek Reporter Jennifer Aniston to represent Emirates. Wedding dress a fake Following the secret wedding nuptials of Jennifer Aniston and her beau Justin Theroux, a photo of what was believed to be the actress's wedding dress went viral. However, it didn't take many Google searches for sceptical individuals to realise the image was fake. The long-sleeved, low-backed work little and generally that they deserve what they get. This is not Greece. I want to present another side of Greek people," Diamantis adds. After hundreds of thousands of likes and comments, it finally came to light that the image was in fact from the ad campaign of Israeli label Dimitrius Dalia's 2014 collection. Many say they were tipped off by the fact that the figure does not actually resemble the actress, and further argued that the dress does not reflect Aniston's style profile. The administration of the Facebook profile have now edited the name to more accurately read: 'Jennifer Aniston Fans', and have deleted the caption. The couple have yet to release any official images or statements from the event.
