DEMETRIOU AND ARGYROPOULOS IN MELBOURNE Christella Demetriou and Argyris Argyropoulos are joining forces to present a colourful palette of traditional and contemporary Greek music sessions at Open Studio (204 High Street, Northcote) in Melbourne this month. Venturing Down Under from Greece, Christella sings and plays the bouzouki, while Argyris sings and plays acoustic guitar. Joining them will be Ilias Gilos, who has recently settled in Melbourne from Thessaloniki, where he studied and worked as an accordionist. A show not to be missed, clear your Wednesday and make at least one of the trio’s three performances on Wednesdays 14, 21 & 28 September at 8.30 pm. Tickets cost $10 adults and $8 concession. An exciting range of dynamic free programming will be complemented by a ticketed program of performance and music for all ages. As part of Melbourne Fringe and open day and night, enjoy the interactive artworks, games and performances for kids, or pull up a stool under the festival lights, grab a bite and settle in for the evening. Artists in residence, the indirect object, will be there every day with Little Wooden Caravan: Shared Table. An enchanting experience for children and adults, audiences are invited to be both performers and spectators of an intimate 10-minute story. For more information, visit www.moreland.vic.gov.au/ coburg-carnivale MANASIS ANNUAL DINNER DANCE 2016 This year’s jam-packed program is set to be the most entertaining and enjoyable ever, filling the evening with colour, dance, music and non-stop glendi. Throughout the evening of Saturday 17 September, Manasis school will showcase over 400 performers, from students as young as three years of age through to the famed senior dance group, presenting dances from all regions of Greece, in traditional costumes. Thanks to generous donations of supporters and sponsors, the school’s raffle draw will give away more than $4,000 worth of prizes on the night, while a Manasis-themed candy bar will distribute thousands of sweets to all guests. Bookings are essential. Seating is 10 people per table, with some tables for groups of 12. Held at Stars International Reception (1C Bell St, Preston) doors open at 6.30 pm. NSW THOSE ROXY GREEKS FILM SCREENING Those Roxy Greeks, by Peter Prineas, will be screened on Thursday 6 October at the Greek Bilingual Bookshop (837 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill) at 6.30 pm for a 7.00 pm start. The 30-minute documentary, based on Prineas’ book Katsehamos and The Great Idea, was made earlier this year in honour of the Roxy Theatre at Bingara’s 80th anniversary and is a story of wars, national schism, catastrophe, and of course, a small-town cinema. The event will kick off with an introduction by Associate Professor Nicholas Doumanis, along with a talk by the documentary-maker himself. SA KONSTANTINOS KOUFOS’ AUSTRALIAN CLUB TOUR ‘16 Konstantinos Koufos will perform live in South Australia on Friday 23 September.
