Recently selected as a finalist for the Art Gallery of NSW’s prestigious 2016 Archibald Prize, the artist’s celebrated piece Self-Portrait in Violet will also be showing as part of the exhibition. DEMETRIOU & ARGYROPOULOS IN MELBOURNE Christella Demetriou and Argyris Argyropoulos are join- ing forces to present a colourful palette of traditional and contemporary Greek music sessions at Open Studio (204 High Street, Northcote) this month. Venturing Down Under from Greece, Christella is famous for her amazing vocals and bouzouki skills, while Argyris sings and plays acoustic guitar. Joining them on stage will be Ilias Gilos, who has recently settled in Melbourne from Thessaloniki, where he studied and worked as an accordionist. A show not to be missed, clear your Wednesday and make at least one of the trio’s remaining performances on Wednesday 21 & 28 September at 8.30pm. Tickets: $10 adults, $8 concession. NSW THOSE ROXY GREEKS FILM SCREENING Those Roxy Greeks by Peter Prineas will be showing in a special screening on Thursday 6 October at the Greek Bilingual Bookshop (837 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill) at 6.30 pm for a 7.00 pm start. The 30-minute doc- umentary, based on Prineas’ book Katsehamos and The Great Idea, was made earlier this year in honour of the Roxy Theatre at Bingara’s 80th anniversary, and is a story of wars, national schism, catastrophe, and of course, a small-town cinema. The event will commence with an introduction by Associate Professor Nicholas Doumanis, along with a talk by the documentary-maker himself. ACT HELLENIC YOUTH CLUB’S BOUZOUKI NIGHT The Hellenic Youth Club’s bouzouki night is back, and promises to be a night to remember.
