NEWS 8 THE WEEKEND NEOS KOSMOS | SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2016 DIGITAL.NEOSKOSMOS.COM Greek Australian Kayla Itsines breaks five world records in one night THEODORA MAIOS Greek Australian personal trainer and fitness phenomenon Kayla Itsines, alongside her partner and CEO of the Bikini Training Company, Tobi Pearce, wrote history last Thursday 17 November in the CBD of Melbourne, becoming the largest fitness group to break five Guinness World Records in less than an hour. To celebrate Guinness World Record Day, Itsines invited her followers to Melbourne's Olympic Park to work together and sweat their way into Guinness history. More than 2,200 attendees, better known as the BBG (Bikini Body Guide) community, streamed through the gates dressed in a sea of limited edition GWR event shirts and simultaneously ran, jumped and squatted their way to easily breaking all five orf the world records attempted. Solvej Malouf, the official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, was on hand to verify the new records set by Itsines and her community. They included: • Most people performing star jumps – 2,192 participants • Most people running on the spot simultaneously – 2,195 participants • Most people doing sit-ups simultaneously – 2,005 participants • Most people performing lunges – 2,146 participants • Most people performing squats – 2,201 Itsines and Pearce wanted to create a unique recordbreaking event to help prove that their BBG community truly is the largest female fitness community on the planet. Not content with just breaking records, Itsines arranged an accompanying motivational live set from the number one female DJ in Australia, DJ Tigerlily. Attendees were also treated to a free boot camp session following the GWR formalities. For many of them, it was the best workout they've ever done. "Loved being there. I've been a 'follower' since the start and always knew you would be massive. What an inspiration. It's people like you I hope my young daughter looks up to," wrote one user on Instagram. "Because of you, WE all came together. It is because of your heart that this community of amazing, uplifting, inspiring women have come together. So, Kayla, here's to YOU, your courage and your dedication. Thank you!" wrote another. At the end of the night, the successful couple was also pleased to award an inspirational BBG member with a $5,000 cheque to be donated to a charity of her choice as well as a $5,000 travel voucher for her to spend with her family. When asked how she feels about breaking multiple Guinness World Records, Kayla, who originates from the island of Kos, responded: "Working as a team to not just achieve our fitness goals but also break these records today really proves that we are the largest and most influential fitness community in the world." The extremely successful businesswoman, who last October made it onto the 2016 BRW Young Rich list, with an estimated worth of $46 mil- lion, can now add the title of multiple world-record-holder to her ever-growing list of achievements. While she is planning to visit the USA and the UK in January, Kayla is also expected to release a fitness book some time next year and has announced on her social media that she is planning to visit Greece with her family in summer 2017. Just three days after breaking all these records, the young entrepreneur returned to Adelaide and proved once again just how down to earth she is by attending her old high school's fair in Highgate, where she found herself helping her sister Leah make healthy juices for all the attendees. "I just can't wait to have a fun day with everyone and see my old principal and teachers," wrote Kayla, who spent the day playing games, chatting to members of the community and posing in front of the most delicious stall of all. The one with all the delicious Greek treats.
