The 54-metre tower will also provide a home for Mr Maras and his family, with the legendary property tycoon moving into the top floor penthouse. Greek Orthodox Australians celebrate Holy Epiphany Ceremonies will be held at Frankston and Rye today and at Port Melbourne tomorrow The Greek Orthodox Community of Australia will celebrate the Holy Epiphany this weekend, true to its tradition, benefiting from the warm weather. As always, the epicentre in Victoria of the traditional celebration of the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist will be the Church of Holy Epiphany in Frankston. Over 3,000 people are expected to visit Frankston Waterfront today (Saturday 6 January) to celebrate the annual Blessing of the Waters. The Divine Liturgy is scheduled to take place at 7.30 am, officiated by Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, who will also throw the Holy Cross into the waters of Frankston beach, for the parish's youth to retrieve. The annual event festivities will carry on till the evening with the local council and parish extending the invitation to everyone. Another ceremony will take place on Saturday in Rye, following the eucharistic blessing service at the Orthodox Church in Red Hill. Father Eleftherios Tatsis will form a procession at Rye jetty and perform the Blessing of the Waters. A festival of music and dancing will be held on the foreshore afterwards. The ceremony of Theofania, following Epiphany Day, will culminate with the Blessing of the Waters at Princes Pier in Port Melbourne. This is a combined celebration for all parishes in Melbourne celebrated by Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis and Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis together with all the Clergy of Melbourne. WA The Greek Orthodox Parishes of Perth with the Holy Monastery of St John of the Mountain are hosting the annual Epiphany Celebration on the foreshore of the Swan River at Matilda Bay Reserve with the retrieval of the Holy Cross from the Waters tomorrow, Sunday 7 January. The service commences at 12.30 pm and parking around the site will be available for parishioners. The Archdiocese has installed tents for shade and protection for the heatwave. There will also be stalls offering souvlakia and a sausage sizzle from 11.00 am, as well as cold drinks, sweets, and a jumping castle for children. Strong swimmers over the age of 15 who are interested in swimming for the Holy Cross are required to contact Fr Elpidios on 0407 260 071. Mr Maras will turn 70 in May, and the tower will be his first residential project - his swansong to cap a remarkable career that began in the 1970s. “This is the last development that I… will be doing,” he told the Adelaide Advertiser. “People have told me that most pharaohs build their own pyramid and I suppose this is what’s going to be [my] pyramid.” Mr Maras’ penthouse will contain four bedrooms and four bathrooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and two outdoor living spaces. His sister Lili and Maras’ children - Steve, Anthony, and Joanne, have also bought into the 16-level project, while Mr Arsenikakis’ family will take four of the 38 apart- ments. The apartments will be on the market for between $400,000 and $4 million. “The European thing is you buy the best apartment in the best location,” Mr Maras said. “It’s a jump to the East End, a jump to the mall, a jump to everything - it’s the only site with parklands frontage and with a northerly aspect.” The tower will feature a roof garden for use by residents, while the ground floor will accommodate a high-end international cafe operator. Mr Maras said the development would target owner-occupiers. “The market has been, in my view, inundated with investment units and I don’t think anyone has built a high echelon residential project like this. It’s easy to build something to be the best, but the challenge is to build something that will remain the best in 10 to 15 years’ time.” Mr Maras added that he would be “absolutely stunned” if he was able to make a profit from the project but would be “happy if we can break even comfortably.” The Office for Design and Architecture SA, with the SA Planning Commission will consider the proposal next month. Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2018 with completion in mid-2020. Developer Theo Maras.
