The Weekend Neos Kosmos : 2 February 2019
DIGITAL.NEOSKOSMOS.COM THE WEEKEND NEOS KOSMOS | SATURDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2019 21 COMMUNITY There were plenty of dance troupes at the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival in 2015. Crowds show up for entertainment and good food. Flashback to the Lonsdale Street Greek Festivals of times past Bill Papastergiadis with singer Michael Hatzigiannis in 2013. The 32nd Lonsdale Street Greek Festival - Melbourne's biggest street party and longest-running Greek event, is about to kick off on February 23 and 24 with an incredible entertainment programme and the usual fodder of great food and special guests such as singer Eleanora Zouganelli. Since 1987, the festival (formally known as Antipo- des) has taken over the historic Greek precinct in the heart of Melbourne to celebrate the best of Hellenic culture. We decided to take a stroll down memory line. Do you have any old photos from the festival to share with us? Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll post them onto our vintage photo gallery. The festival has always been more than just a celebration of Greek identity, it is also a celebration of how the Greek identity continues to flourish in the antipodes. A chance for the younger generation to get in touch with Greek culture. For a couple of days every year, Lonsdale Street goes Greek. Sometimes things get a little racy.
