DIGITAL.NEOSKOSMOS.COM THE WEEKEND NEOS KOSMOS | SATURDAY 10 AUGUST 2019 19 YOUR SAY Real estate property developers! Property sellers! Double agents! PANAGIOTA MAKARONIS Where do I begin? Ten years ago I was happily married - or so I assumed at the time - with one child and another on the way. My then partner and I decided to invite a real estate agent into our home to sell it so we could build a bigger home to accommodate our growing family and that's where the nightmare began! (Can anyone relate?) Like every relationship we would have our ups and downs; weather stormy! Weather Sunny! Whatever issues we had, we would communicate, sort it out and move on. My 13-year marriage ended, and I blame the real-estate industry - though the fact that it ended may have been a blessing in disguise. To be honest, it opened my eyes as I was not that truly happy. Or was I? I don't know, but that is another story for another time. That aside, my perception is that the real estate industry is a con-artist job. Basically, their vision statement is for them to make their money and they will go to great extents and measures to do it. They will befriend you, lie to you, communicate with you, turn partners against each A CYPRIOT REMEMBERS THE OTHER ARCHBISHOP MAKARIOS I remember 1952. I was in Athens, serving my conscription duty, and had leave until 11pm. I went to the kafeneion To Kentron, a meeting place for mainly islanders and a central point of the city where I met two gentlemen, friends: one from Kefalonia and the other from Lefkada. They shouted me coffee and a cigarette and immediately jumped on the issue at hand, as they wanted news about the visit of Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus. They were waiting for a friend who worked at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And there he comes, he ar- rived and was welcomed in the typical greeting fashion of Kefalonia, and he leaves them speechless as he justifies his lateness. “We had a meeting at the Ministry,” with Plastira, Venizelos, Papandreou, Papaspyros and the other members of the then government with Makarios. “We were astonished as he asked for help in a Union with the motherland Greece. My ex and I were at breaking point of nearly killing each other, the property ended up selling at $200,000 less than its value. Did they plan it that way, you think? “ would give me a home, and eventually I found a loop hole and an honest agent who had a heart and saved me, otherwise God only knows where I would be today. They were causing so many effects, so many problems, creating a war zone and they opened up a new can of worms and decided to stir the pot and create havoc in my sanctuary that I called home, just so I could sell my home. Apparently the real estate agent's view, which he so stated himself and I will never forget: "Once you sign your home to us you don't own the title anymore, we do". The real estate nightmare can take its toll on the happiest of couples. other just so they can sell their home. Some agents are more passionate than others, they go to such measures just to get you down and ruin your life and reputation. Not only did they push my marriage off the edge where I got a divorced, while going through settlement they were causing so many problems they made me sick. He is a clever church hierarch, and we admired him. If Union becomes possible, we will bring him to Greece, shave him, and make him prime minister to govern us.” These were determined words, brave thoughts, decisive, words, words, words My ex and I were at breaking point of nearly killing each other - the property ended up selling at $200,000 less than its value. Did they plan it that way, you think? To top it off, when I went to look for a home to live and rent while I was in the process of buying or building, I had to wait for settlement. I felt abused by rental managers, and I nearly ended up homeless. No one said during the meeting. I heard these from the ministerial clerk who was present at the conference. It was August, and by No- vember of the same year we had elections that Papagos won, and the struggle for Cyprus began. The struggle of I signed my soul to the devil that day!!! Even if my marriage wasn't strong enough to survive, they made sure I wouldn't survive. That's where bullying and attacks began. They put so much strain on our marriage and relationship we fought so badly and it worsened after I ended up losing my unborn child. My marriage fell apart, I nearly ended up homeless. I literally lost my patience and my marbles trying to get back on track, I lost my best friend and I blame it on the day I brought that evil Demon Agent into my home. Shame on him. 1 April, 1955. Makarios was a leader and very powerful. The newspapers were filled with reports of personalities of international standing such as General de Gaulle and also among them, Archbishop Makarios. Words pertaining to the Cubanisation of Cyprus were misleading. The Union of Centrists of Papandreou was fortified by a military division from Greece. And I learnt from Greeks in England from the environment of King George B that his friends were overjoyed and gave their best wishes. That's what I know, and the rest is also documented, and they deceived him and deceived the people. Damage and bloodshed. And now history repeats itself with the oil drilling. Turkey threatens. I am afraid of more pain. I hope Turkey will be persuaded and Logic prevails to avoid war. NO more pain for Cyprus. That is what I remember from 1952, about the dynamic personality of Archbishop Makarios. Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus. Charalambos Kandiliotis, Melbourne YOUR WORDS. YOUR VOICE. Here’s what our readers on Facebook thought about: Nick Kyrgios, a winner Sotiris Pashos Well done to the guy. The most fair dinkum player on the tour. Sure, he may act up but at least we see the real him not someone fake. Anthoula Paraskeva Yep...as predicted... Chanel 10... Steven Quartermaine.... Aussie Nick Kyrgios etc, etc. Not a mention of his Greek heritage tonight... Tonight he's a winner!! Spiro Tomaras Paycheck banked. Now I can act like a spoiled brat for the rest of the year. Vas Alembakis Serious question - Does this guy even speak one word of Greek? Arthur Varelas Vas Alembakis, how stupid of you asking! Does it mater if he speaks the language? How many Greek Australians or Greek Americans speak the language this days? MAFS Martha on Mykonos James Razos I've just read the article, the comments and have seen two episodes of the late show. Honestly, a publicity stunt. I have nothing bad to say about Martha but MAFS has done you NO favours. The show is a disgrace. How the people can be manipulated by the show to either behave as they wish or orchestrated, I'm not sure but it's a disaster. And why would Martha be highlighting a hotel in Mykonos based on what experience as she is a make up artist! Anna Hathis James Razos, the show is a disgrace. It's not even pretending to be about psychology anymore. Not that it ever was. Show kills brain cells. Jeana Papas James Razos, they're attention seekers and that's their life blood. And let's not forget how self absorbed they are. Anna Hathis Jeana Papas, well the show wouldn't exist if the poo-throwing gibbons weren't salivating and keeping ratings high. Remember, demand fuels supply... Denise Galanakis The poor Italian guy the teacher she was paired up with clearly couldn't afford to maintain her lifestyle... ας ειναι καλα ο μπαμπάκας της... Sophie Demertzidis Why is she still being talked about? Who cares? I bet she is loving the attention. Anna Nouli Wow ... Why so much hate? It's her life and this is how she wants to live it! At the end of the day, are any of you paying her bills? No... so move on and let her be! Christos Anagnostakos Too bad, her dad is a very nice and humble bloke. Martha is a product of her superficial mum - a piece of opinionated work. Jimmy Elvis Efthimiou She had her five minutes of fame. Now she can just disappear, the five-foot nothing Kim Kardashian wannabe. Nick Bakos Good on her! One has to earn a living somehow. Maria Koumiotis Nick Bakos, best of luck whom ever employs her...
